Connect Athena to Claude

Connect your Athena news intelligence platform to Claude for direct access to your monitored topics, news stories, and AI-powered analysis.

Setup

  1. Open Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app)
  2. Go to Settings > Integrations (or click the connector icon in the chat)
  3. Click Add custom connector
  4. Enter:
    • Name: Athena
    • URL: https://api.athenainformation.ai/mcp
  5. Click Add
  6. A browser window will open — sign in with your Athena account (Google or email/password)
  7. Review the requested permissions and click Allow
  8. Return to Claude — Athena is now connected

What you can do

Once connected, Claude has access to five tools:

List Topics

Browse your monitored news topics. Filter by name or topic group.

"What topics am I monitoring?"

"Show me my topics in the Energy group"

List Stories

Search and filter your news feed. Filter by topic, source, country, company ticker, or date range.

"Show me the latest stories about private credit"

"What has been published about AAPL in the last week?"

List Prompts

View your saved prompt presets and active model preference.

Analyse

Generate AI-powered analysis across filtered news stories with source citations. This is the core capability — it synthesizes insights from your news feed using your configured prompts.

"Run an analysis on stories about TSLA and autonomous vehicles from the last 30 days"

"Use my 'Macro Overview' preset to analyse geopolitical risk stories"

Vote on Stories

Record feedback votes on newsfeed stories — the same upvotes/downvotes available in the Athena dashboard. When you wrap up an analysis session, Claude will offer to mark the stories that were most useful and downvote the ones that were irrelevant or low quality. Votes feed your tenant's story-recommendation loop, so this feedback sharpens future feed ranking. Claude only votes with your explicit go-ahead, and requires the "record story votes" permission granted on the consent screen.

Tips

  • Be specific with filters. The more targeted your topic and date filters, the more focused the analysis. Broad queries across 200 stories produce general summaries; narrow queries produce actionable intelligence.
  • Use your presets. If you have custom analysis prompts saved in Athena, reference them by name — Claude will use them automatically.
  • Combine with other tools. Claude can cross-reference Athena briefings with financial data, portfolio holdings, or web research in a single conversation.

Troubleshooting

IssueSolution
"Authentication required" errorRemove the connector and re-add it. Sign in again when prompted.
Tools not appearingRefresh the page or restart Claude. Check that the connector shows as connected in Settings.
Analysis returns no resultsCheck your topic and date filters. The default date range is the last 7 days.
Slow responsesAnalysis of 100+ stories can take 20-40 seconds. Use tighter filters to reduce the story count.
Voting unavailable or permission deniedConnections made before voting was introduced don't include the voting permission. Remove the connector in Claude and re-add it to grant it.

Privacy

  • Claude accesses only the stories and topics visible to your Athena account
  • Analysis runs on your tenant's data — no cross-tenant data access
  • Story votes recorded through Claude are saved to your Athena account, attributed to you, and can be changed or removed from your newsfeed at any time
  • OAuth tokens expire after 1 hour and are automatically refreshed
  • You can revoke access at any time by removing the connector in Claude settings, or from Settings → Connected Applications in Athena
